neither here nor there

A couple thoughts on the subject of books:

a. I haven't read a book for fun since winter break. As I used to spend all my free time reading before I came to college, this is kind of shocking to me. Then I realized that when I started a book during spring break, after the quarters of English classes and non-stop reading, I don't find it fun anymore. I'm an English major who does not enjoy reading. How pathetic is that?

b. I was looking for a book to give a kid I sometimes baby-sit so I went onto the Scholastic website to see what the kids are reading these days and found, in addition to the Baby-Sitter's Club graphic novels that I found out via slayground last year, they've started doing the same thing with Goosebumps. Are kids not able to read anymore?

c. Current fun read (for the times when I just can't do it for school anymore): The Story of My Life by Helen Keller.

It must be noted that I am in love with "Icky Thump" and cannot wait for the album to be released. Between this song and "Sick Sick Sick" I've barely had my iPod off for the past week.

Lastly, I found this very very old meme while I was clicking around and thought it looked fun. Since I don't do these very often, I thought this would be a good one to finally get around to do:

What was the last concert you attended?
OK Go, April 13

How many people were there?
Few hundred, maybe?

What bands have you seen in concert the most, and how many times?
The Strokes - 6 times

Do you have any setlists? From what bands?
Yes - The Strokes, from their 3/31/06 show in LA

Are there any CDs in close proximity to you? Which ones?
My CDs are in another room.

What band are you in the mood to see live right this second?
The Strokes, always.

Have you ever been on a tour bus?
Yes, but not with a band.

Have you ever partied with a band?
No, not a good one anyway.

How many states/provinces have you been to concerts in?
One.

What bands did you see live the month of May?
I've never been to a concert in May.

What CD are you addicted to at the moment?
There's not really one CD, mostly songs at the moment.

Who is one band that you used to like, but now you can't stand?
I've never liked any of the bands I currently hate.

Have you ever been on anyone's guest list? Whose?
Madonna!

Last band person that you got a picture with?
Not anyone from a good band.

Do you consider yourself a groupie?
No.

How old were you when you went to your first concert?
My first real concert was when I was 17.

I don't consider seeing local bands at small venues "real" concerts (only a few have impressed me and the rest weren't worth remembering). For the sake of simplicity, I'm sticking with artists who are on recording labels.

Who was it?
Again, The Strokes

Which artists haven't you seen yet that you want to see?
The White Stripes

Most of the other artists I'd want to see are dead/retired.

Are you wearing a band shirt right now?
No.

What band do you own the most merch of?
Yet again, The Strokes

Do you ever do anything crazy at shows?
No.

What are your favourite venues to go to shows at?
Troubadour and Gibson Amphitheatre

What band do you have the most performance pictures of?
The Strokes, mostly my own

Would you ever get a tattoo representing a band?
Actually, no.

How many concerts do you average a year?
5-10

Upcoming shows?
Maybe Michael Bublé in August, but that's a long way off.

List every band you've EVER seen live, no matter how obscure: in no particular order:
The Strokes (x6)
The Sounds (x2)
The Hives (x2)
Eagles of Death Metal (x2)
The Killers (x2)
Lou Reed
Franz Ferdinand

It is a gloriously warm day and since I'm home for the weekend and decided to not do any schoolwork, I am off for a swim. When I come back, I may attempt to catch up on a month's worth of posts on the flist. Or I'll start off with a week and see how that goes.

books, the white stripes, memes, music, random
