Hi everyone ♥ Remember that magazine page with Shuri and Hakuren scanned recently? (You can download it
here or
here!) I'm just here to say I did a rough translation of the page, and I may as well post it here, so the other... five people who care about Shuri can see o/
This is the Noble Family of Fail!
The Oak family, noble family among noble families in the Barsburg Empire. It is said that it is the fixed destiny of any son of the Oak family to become a soldier or a politician. Of that Oak family, so far in our story, two boys have appeared. One is Teito's current best friend, Hakuren Oak. The other, then, is the one who appeared in the beginning of the story, Shuri Oak. Their beauty is the same, but these two have exact opposite personalities. Of course, this time's special feature is the one famous only for his baseless pride, that failure of a military student, Shuri. Sheltered by the Oak family's power, Shuri was domineering of Teito, but now that he's asked to display his practical skill, he cries and asks for help, a genuine good-for-nothing. What's more, according to the rumors around society, he's the certified idiot son of the Oak family. After he becomes a legitimate soldier, just what kind of work will he be doing? That failure is what we want to see again (haha).
Hakuren Oak
Opposing his father, he's a boy who ignores the Oak family and aims to become a bishop. Outwardly he's exactly as super-beautiful as Shuri, but their personalities are by no means the same. He has just a hint of a mother complex?
Shuri Oak
His father is the imperial Admiral Wakaba Oak. He was brought up considerably spoiled, and, full of pride in his Oak family heritage, he speaks and acts with arrogance repeatedly to his fellow classmates.
Teasing Teito - 90% fail
At the Military Academy, after finding out that Teito was a former combat slave, Shuri kept poking at and teasing him. On the flipside, with his superiority, it goes without saying that he's jealous of the attention Teito gets from the board chairman.
Actually he's the representative of the graduating class - 80% superiority
At the Military Academy's graduation ceremony, as the representative of the graduates, Shuri stood onstage. Before many students and faculty, and the leaders of the board of directors, he made a magnificent speech. His performance ability is surprisingly high.
U-Unsightly! - 80% fail
At the practical exam, the graduates had to fight a prisoner. After being struck at full force and flying to the wall, he pleaded for help from the examiners--such fail. Ayanami, there on inspection, even said he was "unsightly." ((I'd like to note that Shuri was never actually hit. He just freaked out over everyone else getting hit that hard. If he were actually hit maybe he would have more of a reason to cry!!))
Fail Degree Check!
(fail) 5 * * * * * 0 5 (cool)
Aside from his noble birth, Shuri comes with no merit. But he loves to get attention anyway, a worrisome child. He's 100% fail, but because that seems to be due to the training his parents gave him, we can't help but sympathize a little.
Fail Testimony: Shuri Oak's actor Irino Miyu
--What do you think is so unskillful about Shuri?
His voice! (laughs)
--Even though he teases Teito and Mikage, somehow we just can't hate Shuri. What's Shuri's charm?
That he looks perfect, but in reality he's absolutely useless. That, among so many really amazing people, he's the most normal.
--From Irino-san's point of view, what are Shuri's weak points and cool points?
His weak point is the gap between him and his appearance. His cool point is his beauty, isn't it!!
--I think, outside of just Shuri, I want to ask about good-for-nothing characters as a whole. Where do you think the charm lies in these characters?
Maybe that they're just so useless, they make you want to protect them.
--Irino-san, if you can think of anything where you would say of yourself, "I fail a lot in this aspect," please tell us.
If there are sudden loud noises, I am extremely surprised. My whole body goes JUMP!!
