Academy Awards 2010

Mar 07, 2010 20:38

Only 5 1/2 hours left. Have a look at the nominees and I'll see you then :D

Aaaand here we go, Ladies and Gentlemen. Welcome to the 82nd Annual Academy Awards!!

Wohooo, Neil Patrick Harris as host to the evening. Suit up! No one will ever be as good as Billy Crystal, but Harris has potential as he oens the gala with an old hollywood style showgirls sing and dance number.

Enter Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin, who, as the old pros they are, effortlessly introduce and make fun of the nominees, the current movies and superstars. I wish Harris would have taken part, but I won't complain :).

A. Baldwin: "And here is the inglorious basterds section."
S. Martin: "And here are the people who made the movie."

1. Best supporting actor
Christopf Waltz (Inglorious Basterds)
Wohooo, very good!
And good acceptancy speech. Not as submissive as at the Golden Globes thank god, but humble without being over the top.

Blind Side
Sandra Bullock not in a romantic comedy? But it doesn't look half bad. Might be worth watching.

Hihi...nice litte insert with "interviews" with the stars of the nominated animated feature films.

2. Best Animated Feature
Up
Pitty, not "Coraline" (big Neil Gaiman fan here!), but we all know that Pixar can deliver awesome movies.

Back to Martin and Steve. Does that mean that we won't see Harris again? :(

Presentation of the nominees for Best Song by Miliey Cyrus and.....
What a pitty. In previous shows the songs were performed throughout the evening. Guess that has changed.

3. Best Original Song
The Weary KInd (from Crazy Heart)
"I would like to dedicate this to my wife. I love you more than rainbows, baby." Awwwww
And the song doesn't seem half bad either ;)

Robert Downey Jr and Tina Fey preent the next award while Sarah Jessica Parker enthousiastically chews her gum in the audience. Close your mouth, girl!)

4. Best Original Screenplay
The Hurt Locker
Haven't seen that one yet.

Mathew Broderick and a terrifying looking colleague present movies by the director John Hughes (Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Breakfast Club, Home Alone) who passed away last August. Oh, look Macaulay Caulkin is still around...but as always, only in connection with Home Alone.

5. Best Animated Short
Logorama

(George Clooney looks bored)

6. Best Documentary Short
Music by Prudence

7. Best live action short
The new Tenants

Ben Stiller appears in full Avatar Make up to present the award for best make-up. I agree that he should have worn his Spok ears signed by Leonard Nemoy. James Cameron is as always a bit humorless (is that even a word?)

8. Best Make up
Star Trek

A Serious Man
Oh, that one looks good. I have to keep that in mind. Could be one of those good "serious comedies"

9. Best Adapted Screenplay
.Precious: Based on the novel "Push" by Sapphire

Queen Latifah (what a cool name!) presents the winners of the earlier given out Governor's Awards. If mEryl Streep can get out of her seat for Lauren Backall, then so damn well can Penelope Cruz!

10. Best Supporting Actress
Mo'Nique ("Precious: Based on the novel "Push" by Sapphire")

Awwwww ...Mr darcy presents

An Education
Definitely also on my "to see" list

Sigroney Weaver wearing red? I don't approve.

11. Production Design
Avatar
Ok, they can have those "technical" Oscars, but nothing for story or content or naything like that

12. Best Costume Design
The Young Victoria

"I dedicate this to all the colleagues who work hard in tge low budget productions. This is for you...but I'm still taking it home" :D
Precious: Based on the novel "Push" by Sapphire
I'm sure this a movie worth seeing, but I also think it's a bit like reading a report about the suffering in Africa. You don't want to read it but know you should.

A tribute to Horror? Cool!
But presented by the actors of "Twilight"? Well...whatever.

wuaaaahhh.....Ok, now it's impossible for me to put my feet on the floor. Somebody might grab them from under the couch. O_O

hmmm...I love Morgan Freeman's voice. He explains sound editing and I'm wondering if he has done any audio books. Probably not :(.

13. Sound Editing
The Hurt Locker

14. Sound Mixing
The Hurt Locker

Inglorious Basterds
I was a bit disappointed. I had expected more of Tarantino, but it's of course still a good movie.

15. Cinematography
Avatar

Demi Moore, today with both her hip bones present :P, presents the colleagues who passed away the previous year.
It's sad how many you onyl remember once you see their faces in that slide show.

Michael Jackson too? Ah well, why not.

Jennifer Lopez in a dress that makes her hips look even wider than they are presents the Best Original Score award.

The dance perfromances to the various scores is a nice touch, but I'm afraid I'll use the "break" to get some more tea.

16. Best Original Score
Up
Disney always ha good music.

17. Visual Effects
Avatar

Well, they earned that one :)

Up in the Air
One more movie on my list. I seriously need to start catching up. I have negelcted my movie going lately.

18. Best Documentary Feature
The Cove
A bit too much laughter and joy for the fact that the documentary os about the slaughter of dolphins.

19. Best Film Editing
The Hurt Locker

Oh look, Keeanu Reeves is still around.

The Hurt Locker
It's winning one Oscar after the other, but I don't think I have to see this one.

Cool, Pedro Almodovar and Quentin Tarantino :D

20. Best Foreign Language Film
El secreto de sus ojos (Argentina)

Avatar
Let me sum up. Nice exterior, indifferent content.

That's nice :-). Colleagues present the nominees by sharing little anecdotes from the shoots.
But what is Vera Farming wearing?
Tim Robbins does the best job presenting Morgan Freeman.

21. Best Leading Actor
Jeff Bridges ( for Crazy Heart)
First Oscar after 5 nominations.
Unspectacular acceptancy speech....but with his hand in his pocket. (bad style in my opinion)

Ah, nice :)
The same set-up for the actresses.

Forest Whitaker is a cool geek, but those glasses are too much even for him.
Cute :D! Michael Sheen makes Helen Mirren blush.

22. Best Actress in  a Leading Role
Sandra Bullock (for The Blind Side)
First nomination and first Oscar, not bad. Sandra includes all her co-nominees in her acceptance speech and does so very elegantly. And she has to cry...aaaw...but it's believable :)

Eeeeuuuwww....what on earth is Barbara Streisand wearing?!

23. Directing
Kathryn Bigelow (for the Hurt Locker)
The first time a woman wins this Oscar? Wow!

Tom Hanks makes it (very) short and sweet:

24. Best Picture
The Hurt Locker

And that is all we have time for :D

To sum things up:
There were no "big moments" in this year's show and no big surprises I think. I wish we had seen more of Neil Patrick Harris ;-).

6:15 am...time to splash some water on my face an drive to work.
Thanks for reading. Hope you enjoyed *bows*
