Boot thoughts
Hm, I don't think I have written about this here.
My HD boots came and the size 7.5 fits perfectly in the foot. However, like the 8, the shaft is too tight. It works halfway up my calf and then won't zip further.
I took them to Houston Shoe Hospital and they referred me to another guy. This guy does mostly custom leatherwork for them and other shops. He was very nice, and he said that he could alter the boots to fit but that a)he could not add an elastic gusset, it had to be a leather strip, and b)it would cost $100. Ack! He also said that he didn't think it would look good and that I should send the boots back.
Fortunately, he had some leather on hand that was a very similar grain.
I asked him if he thought stretching would work and he said no :( He said that alteration was my only choice, that he doesn't recommend it, but that he would do it if that was what I wanted.
On the one hand, I know that buying a pair of boots that fit my calves would run at least $200, so the cost would come out around the same. I just don't want the boots to look disfigured: if it's going to ruin the look of them, it's pointless.
Thoughts? I should add that I do mightily love these boots.
